About Us

Who We Are

My name is Hardy Heiser a sauna enthusiast from Dornbirn Austria. Moving to the North Island in New Zealand in 1988 was much less a culture shock than it was the baffling realisation that Saunas were virtually unheard of in the traditional sense, constantly used in reference to anything spa and bath or relegated to leisure establishments with a swimming pool found with directions to an obscure sign tucked away ‘somewhere over there’ by the spa area.

A far cry now, of course, in a world full of processed foods and chemical addiction; where global trends gravitate to what was once coined alternative therapy. Sauna, is now as popular in New Zealand as it has always been in the therapeutic communities who well knew the benefits of an age old tradition to cleanse, heal and relax the body and mind using dry heat to induce the sweat glands to open the pores to purify, rejuvenate then sublimely relax the body deep from within all its recesses to the serene picture of health viewed from without.

REMEMBRANCE brought this page to you
Ktchishhhhhh-steam rising from a gentle splash on heated rocks
Warm smell of eucaplyptus
When all manner of thought rests
With the instant vanishing of care
Where sweating is key to both physical
And emotional well-being
Luxuriate in the liquid exiting your body
As it expunges all that stands between
You and that all-encompassing inner peace
Relive this experience over and over
The Cleansing bliss of sauna heaven
Brought to your home.

Bernhard Hillila Book. *The Sauna Is.

The term “sauna’ is properly applied only to baths in which the entire body receives dry heat and steam. It is to be hoped that the rapid spread and increased popularity will not lead to a changed, misdirected pattern..
